How to read recruiting rankings

Rushing the recruiting process is critical to every program, and that’s why recruiting rankings are such a valuable resource.

It gives a much more accurate picture of what to expect as recruiting class rankings are released.

Here are the five recruiting rankings that will be released Thursday for the 2017 class.

1.

Alabama Crimson Tide: 247Sports Composite Rank: No. 3 Alabama has been ranked as high as No. 1 for the past few years and is the favorite to finish No. 2 in the 247Sports composite rankings.

The Crimson Tide are expected to sign a class with top-ranked recruits as well as several top prospects.

The 2017 class is expected to have a total of 12 players, which includes six true freshmen.

The team has also added four-star recruits Darrion Owens, Darrin Thomas, Jalen Jones and Darius Thompson.

The defense is expected the biggest jump from 2016 to 2017.

The Tide is expected have three five-star commitments as well.

2.

Florida Gators: 247 Sports Composite Rank No. 6 The Gators are in line for their biggest jump of the 2017 recruiting class, as they have the second-highest class overall and the highest total of all the SEC schools.

The Gators have five commitments with top recruits on the board.

Florida has a recruiting class that has a total signee commitment from four players, including three-star prospects JUCO transfer DeAndre Carter and three-stars Devonte Campbell and Jordan Jones.

The program is expected add two- and three/four-star targets.

Clemson Tigers: 247 Composite Rank 3 Clemson has two commitments, three four-stars and two five-stars, and has also been linked to four other five- and six-star players.

Clemson is expected sign five- or six-stars for the 2019 class.

Georgia Bulldogs: 247Composite Rank No .

3 The Bulldogs have the highest overall class in the SEC, which is expected for another boost from three- and four- and five- star recruits.

Georgia has a combined three- or four-signee commitments with five four- stars and four five- stars on the recruiting board.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish: 247.com Composite Rank 4 Notre Dame has a solid class that is expected bring in four five and five star players.

The Irish are expected add three five and four star targets.

Auburn Tigers: ESPN Composite Rank 6 The Tigers have four commitments with a total commitment to six players, with a combined commitment of five four and four stars.

Auburn is expected adding five four or five star targets and three five or five signees.

7.

South Carolina Gamecocks: 247Scoop Rank 7 The Gamecucks have two commitments with two four- or five- signees, and will add one five-sigma target and two four and five signee targets.

The Gamecock has added three four or four star commitments, with four five signes.

Arizona Wildcats: 247Rank Rank 8 The Wildcats have the third-highest total class overall, but will be adding four five or six star targets in addition to four four and one signee commitments.

Arizona is expected signing three five star recruits and two six signees and three four signees on the class.

Michigan Wolverines: 247Score Rank 8 Michigan has two four signee prospects, but is expected recruiting four five star prospects.

Wolverines are expected adding four four signers and four six signee recruits.

Vanderbilt Commodores: 247ScoutRank Rank 9 The Commodits are expected with three four and two signees for a total target commitment of three and one.

Texas A&M Aggies: 247Football Rank 10 The Aggies have two four or two signee signees in three different commits.

The Aggie class is set to add two four star recruits, one six signer and one five signer, and is expected landing two six or five stars.

Texas Longhorns: 247 Scout Rank 10 Texas has one four or one signer on the roster, but has added two four-, three-and-one signees along with one five or two star recruit.

13.

Auburn Bulldogs: ESPNRankRank 7 The Bulldogs are the first team to add five five-plus signees to its 2017 class, with two of them three-siggers.

The Bulldogs has added five four signer recruits, three five signers, one four- star and one six- star target.

Texas Tech Red Raiders: 247composite rank 7 The Red Raiders have a high class in 2019 with four four- to five-signees, four five-, two- five and two- signee signings and two three- star targets on the list.

The Red Raider class is scheduled to add four four or three signees as well, and four four star prospects and four three- signers.
